What is the difference between a psychiatric nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, psychologist, and therapist? — Psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNP) are specially trained nurses who have completed either a master’s or doctorate degree in their respective field(s). PMHNPs diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, and can provide therapy. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, and provide therapy. Psychologists and therapists specialize in therapy and can diagnose conditions but cannot prescribe medication.

Scheduling and First Appointment
How do I book an appointment? — You can request an appointment online through the contact form and we will call you within 24 business hours. Or contact the office directly to schedule at (307) 333-5757.
Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist? — No referral is required unless mandated by your insurance plan.
What kind of paperwork do I need to fill out? — Intake forms are available through the patient portal and can be completed online before your visit. The portal link will be sent to you after scheduling your appointment. All intake forms must be completed at least 24 hours prior to your first appointment to avoid cancellation.
What is your cancellation or no-show policy? — Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations and no-shows may incur a fee.
Fees, Billing, and Insurance
Do you accept insurance? — Kintsugi Psychiatry accepts select insurance plans. Please check our list of accepted plans or contact us to verify coverage.
How does payment work if I am paying out-of-pocket? — Kintsugi Psychiatry has flat rates for follow-up and initial evaluation appointments. Rates are provided upfront for full transparency.
How much will a session cost? — Session fees vary by service type and insurance (if applicable) and are discussed at the time of scheduling. Payment is due at the time of service, if you are unable to pay at this time, your appointment may be rescheduled.
What is a superbill, and do you provide them? — A superbill is an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Kintsugi Psychiatry provides superbills upon request.
Do you offer a sliding scale or payment assistance? — Kintsugi Psychiatry does not offer limited reduced-fee options at this time.
Treatment and Medication
Is medication required for treatment? — No. Kintsugi Psychiatry recommends medication only when helpful will always discuss all options collaboratively with the patient.
What are some common side effects of medication? — Side effects vary by medication. Kintsugi Psychiatry reviews all potential risks and benefits before starting any treatment.
How long does treatment take? — Treatment length varies by individual goals, symptoms, and progress.
What if I have an emergency? — Kintsugi Psychiatry does not provide emergency or crisis services. If you are in immediate danger, experiencing a mental health crisis, or thinking about harming yourself or others, call 988, dial 911, or go to the nearest emergency room right away. Do not use online messaging or scheduling systems for urgent needs.
Telehealth and Digital Access
Do you offer online or telehealth appointments? — Yes. Kintsugi Psychiatry offers secure telehealth appointments for clients who live more than 100 miles from the office or have extenuating circumstances that have been discussed with the clinician. Are telehealth sessions as effective as in-person visits? — Yes. Telepsychiatry is evidence-based and offers the same quality of care with added convenience. However, telepsychiatry is not offered for initial psychiatric evaluations. You must be seen in-person at the office in Casper, WY before starting telepsychiatry.
How do I access the patient portal? — At the moment Kintsugi Psychiatry only uses the patient portal for completion of the intake forms. The link to the portal will be sent via text message after scheduling your first appointment.
